Earthwatch's Family Camping Weekend

18 - 20 November

From Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, families are invited on a camping weekend at North Head near Manly, Sydney, to help protect bandicoots through the ‘Bandicoots on the Brink’ project. Activities include spotlighting and trapping bandicoots at night, setting and collecting cameras and cat lures, and looking at video footage of the secret night-time activities of bandicoots.

Earthwatch's 'Bandicoots on the brink'

From 2 April - 3 June, 2011

Spend a few hours walking through North Head Sanctuary, a spectacular area of endangered banksia bushland featuring, diverse birdlife, military remnants and magnificent harbour views, to lure and catch bandicoot predators on camera. As a volunteer for Earthwatch Institute Australia, you'll use remote sensor, infrared cameras and scent lures to attract and then film predators across the entire headland, from the urban fringe to deep within the reserve. Volunteers are given a GPS to locate the high-tech cameras, and set the cameras up at new sites. Various dates are offered throughout April, May and June.

Cost: $49, with the fee going towards valuable conservation research.
