Australian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) Annual Conference

28 - 30 September

The conference will reflect the new direction of ACTS, the sector champion for sustainability within the tertiary education sector, by moving away from a traditional conference format to create an interactive environment to learn and engage with like-minded colleagues.

Also included at the conference is the Award ceremony of the 2011 Green Gown Awards Australasia – THE national award scheme for sustainability. Be there and find out who is leading the way in tertiary education sustainability.

The City of Sydney is proudly launching a new initiative to get more people in Sydney riding. It’s a fun workplace competition to see which Sydney business or organisation can get the greatest percentage of their staff to ride a bike! To take part, participants need to ride a bike for just 10 minutes or more at anytime, anywhere across the three weeks of the Challenge – it’s that easy. Get your workplace on board, win great prizes, feel fantastic and do your bit to make Sydney a more bike-friendly city.

Randwick EcoLiving Fair

Sunday September 18
The EcoLiving Fair is a free festival that reflects the green aspirations and achievements of our community as well as providing an enjoyable and engaging day out for people from all walks of life. The program includes music and live entertainment; food and drink; workshops on gardening, composting, wormfarms and more; panel discussions on green energy and green cleaning options; kids art and craft and solar powered games; a speakers tent with special guests, whilst our community and market stalls and exhibits will entice and enlighten; Not forgetting the Festival of the Bike with live demo’s and bike workshops; quiet spaces and gorgeous scenery guaranteed as well.
The event is powered by renewable forms of energy including wind, solar and bio diesel. Over 3000 trees will be given away to attendees to help offset the carbon used in the event’s infrastructure delivery and operation. No plastic water bottles will be sold at this event.

The Awards recognise the exceptional initiatives taking place within tertiary education institutions to become more sustainable. Any tertiary education institution can enter, universities, TAFE’s, registered training organisations, etc. This year’s present sponsors include ACTS, Ecosave (gold sponsor), Sustainability Victoria, InterfaceFLOR, G Magazine, Climate Friendly, Aquabubbler and TAFE NSW.

Earthwatch Oceania Gala

Raising awareness and funds to address the challenges our oceans face, Earthwatch will celebrate its 40th anniversary at the Palladium at Crown in Melbourne. Don your finest threads and expect fine food and wine, an address by sea turtle researcher Kathy Townsend and a performance by Aria and Logie award winner Kate Ceberano. Tickets to the fundraiser are $195 each or $1,800 for a table of up to ten people. Money raised will go towards protecting seabird nesting sites at Lord Howe Island, marine reserves in Sydney’s northern beaches and turtle conservation at North Stradbroke Island.
