Earthwatch's 'Conserving Koala Country'

From 2 April - 3 June, 2011

Traverse the Great Otway National Park while conducting valuable research on koala habitats to understand the impact of climate change on their population and behaviour. During this Earthwatch Institute Australia expedition, volunteers will get the chance to work closely with koalas and be involved in all aspects of the research including:

* Capturing and handling koalas under close supervision of an experienced catcher/handler.
* Radio tracking Koala observations.
* Tree measurements.
* Habitat assessments.
* Scat search, collection, and preparation of samples for analysis.
* Deployment of cameras, downloading and viewing images.
* Spotlighting for animals at night.

Where: Otway National Park, Southern Western regions of Victoria (along the Great Ocean Road), Australia.
When: Various dates over 10 days: 27 April - 6 May; 14 - 23 September; 19 - 28 October, 2011.
Cost: $2,700 (includes accommodation and meals), with the fee going towards valuable conservation research.

Green Living Week: part of the Energise Enterprise Festival

From 23-27 August 2010, the Master Builders Association Victoria (MBAV) is hosting Green Living Week -three events to bring together architects, builders, tertiary students, and homeowners or developers interested in sustainable design and building technologies and practice. During the week, you can visit some of Victoria’s most environmentally friendly homes when they open their doors to the public for one day to showcase a range of sustainable features and building design. The Green Living Conference will challenge current community perceptions and the need for drivers of change in the industry. Conservation And Land Management Traineeship

An exciting opportunity to commence a Conservation and Land Management Traineeship working in a team responsible for the management of Bush land Parks and open space areas. The position will be based within a local government council.

Your duties will include the maintenance and management of the Bush land, Parks, Creeks and Reserves.

Duties will include: Revegetation, weeding, herbicide spraying, brush cutting, mulching, mowing, pruning and erosion control.

Some relevant exposure or industry to conservation and land management is desirable, ability to follow instructions, be physically fit in order to undertake manual handling operations, verbal and written communication skills, enjoy working outdoors in range of weather conditions, drivers license desirable but mandatory.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake formal training at TAFE to obtain their qualification.

Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort is a 3 Star Eco Resort located on a natural coral cay situated 80km off the coast of Hervey Bay in Queensland, being the southern most island on the Great Barrier Reef.

The company is currently seeing a full time Housekeeping Supervisor.

Reporting to the Resort Manager, you would be responsible for managing a small team of dedicated staff and the servicing of all guest rooms and resort facilities.

The position encompasses laundry and stock control, chemical monitoring, detailing and daily cleaning duties to keep guest accommodation and amenities up to Lady Elliot Island standard.

The successful applicant will possess;

* Experience within a similar position
* Organization skills with attention to detail
* Confidence in being part of and leading a team,
* Willingness to work hard and take on the responsibility that this position requires.

Please note, this is NOT an executive housekeeper role, you will be required to do the hard yards with the rest of the team on a daily basis.

All applicants must be prepared to live on island and work a 20 on / 8 day off roster, with the only access to the island being by light aircraft from Hervey Bay or Bundaberg.
